Good guys finish last…

For two years, Smokey Thompson and Gwen Chavis struck out in love while their careers took off. Smokey’s life consisted of adrenaline-pumping adventures, and Gwen lived to make everyone else happy.

Until soulful eyes and a disarming smile come face to face with sparkling blue ones and a contagious laugh. Smokey and Gwen weren’t looking for each other, much less a relationship, but when Gwen falls into Smokey’s arms, kismet happens.

With their heartaches in the past, are they ready to try something new? Will love finally let them finish first?

“I need you to know that I meant everything I said last night.”

Her head slowly moves up and down. “Okay.” Her eyes are watering as she moves her hand toward me, and I gladly take it.

“After I left you this morning, I thought about what Davis had said. I talked to Blu, and my mind went to places I didn’t want it to go.”

“To Heather.” It isn’t a question. She knows.

“Partially, but yeah.”

“Want to tell me about it?”

“You know when I met Heather, it was calculated. And one of the things I love most about us is that we met unintentionally. Davis called me a most eligible bachelor, but I’ve never thought of myself that way. I’m just me. But then I started thinking that you work at the bank, my bank. You were with someone who may not know us personally but knows who we are and that maybe we weren’t so unintentional after all. And I started to question if this isn’t a Heather thing all over again.”

She blinks her eyes, and a tear rolls down her face. “I didn’t know you. I didn’t know Lucy knew who you were until later. I told you that I wouldn’t play you, but with your past, I can see how it could look that way to you.” She walks around the table and straddles my lap. “To hell with this game, Smokey. The strip poker is sexy and all, but we need to connect, not play.” She pushes my hair from my face, causing me to lean back and look at her. “I have not looked at your accounts, and I won’t unless there is a reason for me to look. I wasn’t looking for anything the night I met you. You were just as much of a surprise to me as I was to you. I swear to you, Smoke, I’m not screwing with you. I live with doubts that I’m not good enough all the time. Why would I do that to someone else?”

I wrap my arms around her so tightly that I don’t know if she can breathe, and bury my face in the crook of her neck, chastising myself for doubting her and thanking the heavens that this isn’t a game to her. “You’re right. I’m sorry. Knowing your past, I should have known better.”

“We’re still new, Smoke. I’m sure there are going to be more times of doubt, but I hope we’ll work through them…together.”

“Me too.”

“What was Blu’s response?”

“He said if you knew about Heather and are still here that maybe we’re on the same page and need to find out.”

She takes a deep breath and stands up. I watch, not knowing what she’s doing. One shoe slides off then the other. Her socks fly over her shoulder. “I’m falling in love with you, or maybe I’m already there.” She slides her arms inside her T-shirt and pushes it over her head. “The man before me has captivated me—mind, body, and soul. So, if he’s a most eligible bachelor, and I’ve taken him off the market, I’m good with that.”

She smiles and grabs the bottom of her sports bra, pulling it over her head. Her gorgeous breasts jiggle as they fall back to her chest, and my mouth waters. “I love the way you find all the spots that turn me on and make me feel beautiful.” I open my mouth, but she holds up a finger to quiet me. Her hands slide into the sides of her pants and push down. “And most of all, I love the way you love me. I don’t care where we go as long as we go together.” She steps clear of her clothes. “Come and get me, mountain man.”

I push off the chair and pick her up with her legs wrapping around me. “You’ve caught me. Line, hook, and sinker, baby. I’m yours, and you’re mine. All mine. No more question games. I’ll answer anything you want, anytime you want, anywhere you want.” I walk us to the back of the house, knowing I’m going to brand her from the inside out.

Her legs tighten their hold around my middle and raise her breasts to my mouth. I suck on a nipple, swirling it with my tongue, then move to the other. “Ahh, Smoke-y.” Her arms pull my head closer, and I can barely see over the slope of her shoulder. With an ass cheek in each hand, I knead and pull and squeeze until a moan leaves her.
