Wow. I fell in love with Nico HARD. He is just about one of the sweetest book boyfriends I’ve run across. I really loved the fact that once he figured out that Kat was the one he wanted, he didn’t let anything deter him from going after her. Even when she wasn’t sure, even when he was afraid of getting hurt, he just powered through.
In Charmer, Nico is an up and coming rock star. He meets Kat when he starts hanging out in the coffee shop where she works nights, so she can be around for her 6 year old son during the daytime. He works HARD to get a chance with her – and she’s just about ready to give him one- but he’s leaving on tour for two months. But Kat is a documentary filmmaker and photographer – so he hires her to come on tour with him and document it – and she brings her son AND her mom along with her. Sounds like it could be a recipe for disaster, with everyone packed into a tour bus for two straight months…. But while it’s not always easy, it is of course an amazing experience for all of them.
I really think Nico is the perfect fantasy of SO many women – I know he’s mine! Gorgeous, kind, loving, and able to actually write beautiful, romantic, HIT songs about how much he loves you. And it goes without saying that he’s AMAZING between the sheets. He’s really the perfect fantasy.
Kat is a heroine who is easy to love. She’s smart, sweet and she’s a really great mom to Tate. But she’s also a little insecure. Since unexpectedly becoming a mother at such a young age, she has moments of missing her old life and who she was pre-baby. In my experience, this is something ALL moms face, no matter whether their babies are planned or not, or how old they are! As a result, I found Kat easy to like and identify with.
I loved the secondary characters in this one – especially Nico’s Grams. She is just about the coolest grandma anyone could hope for. Kat’s mom Lou is also a fantastic character. And if you’ve read Sleeper by Kayley Loring, you’ll love the glimpses into Willa and Shane’s life together.
All in all, I would highly recommend Charmer. Another fun and low-angst escape during these times when it is desperately needed!
